Obituary for Chloe Mae Elswick
Chloe Mae Elswick, 95, of Lebanon, Va., passed from this life on Thursday, June 18, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Alexander Baylor and Rosa Warner Elswick. She was born and lived her entire life in the Clinch Mountain community of Russell County, Va. She helped her parents and siblings on the family farm, and later worked for several years at Russell Manufacturing in Lebanon.
Although she had no children, she loved and cared for her nieces, Tammy and Ginger, from birth through adulthood, and she was very special to all her nieces, nephews and members of her extended family, who knew her as “Aunt Chloe.” She lived a quiet, private life, but was a positive influence on many people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mamie Mitchell, Virgie Fields and Dorothy Elswick; three brothers, Bernard, Dale and Ralph Elswick; one niece, Patsy Mitchell Price Lynch; one nephew, Bobby Joe Elswick; and one great nephew, Michael Price.
Survivors include a sister, Agnes Elswick; one niece, Mary Joyce Thacker; one Nephew, Dr. Larry Mitchell;
great-nieces, Ginger Elswick, Tammy Lasley, Karen Bush, and Elizabeth Mitchell Wallace; great-nephews
Daniel Kevin Thacker, Jonathan Edward Mitchell, David Joseph Mitchell, Stephen Andrew Mitchell and
Nathan Henry Mitchell; great-great-nieces Savannah
Clifton, Montana Harris and Fawn Price; great-great-nephews, Jonathan Edward Mitchell Jr., and Kevin Lawson Thacker; great-great-great-nephew, Thomas
Clifton; and a very special great-great-nephew, Robert Joseph Elswick, who was very devoted to her and
gave her the nickname, “Nana.”
The family would like to thank everyone who showed
kindness and compassion to Chloe during her
illness, and would like to extend special thanks to
the staff at Maple Grove, for the care and support
they gave to Chloe, and to friends Judy Crowder and
Pallbearers will include David Mitchell, Stephen Mitchell, Nathan Mitchell, Matthew Baker, Robert Joseph Elswick, Will Dunford, and Josh Schliting.
Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Stacy, Greg Clark, Wendell Clark, and Gary Crowder.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Pastors Darrell Harmon and Jason Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service and anytime at the home of Tammy Lasley.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at the Fields Cemetery in Lebanon. Those wishing to follow in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m.
