Velma "Vet" Jordan Sweeney Street
Velma “Vet” Jordan Sweeney Street, 79, of the Carterton section of Lebanon, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Born in Russell County, Va., on June 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Solie and Lula Johnson Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Andy Sweeney and Alvin L. Street; children, Ada Sweeney, Winston Sweeney, Kelly Sweeney, and Berta Phillips; grandchildren, Christopher Street, Jeffery Street, and Danielle Burke; five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her children, Vada Rasnake, Judy Copenhaver, Jerry Sweeney, Eda Gaye Burke, Scotty Sweeney, Linda Sines, Lula Faye Street, Sammy Sweeney, Reba Street, Delmar Sweeney, Kitty Barton, Katy Jackson, Timmy Harris and Rocky Sweeney; sister, Myrtle Jordan Robinson and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chad Barton, Brandon St. Clair, Randy Chafin, Jeff Turner, Bobby Vencill, Don Hughes, and Buck Sweeney.
Michael Hughes will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Gerald Lester and Rev. Bill Hensley officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Sweeney Family Cemetery in Carterton. Those wishing to follow in the funeral procession are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
