Obituary

Diana Carol Smith, 73, of Cleveland, Va., passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ida Smith.

Diana worked as a legal assistant and office manager for Mr. Stephen M. Quillen for 51 years, starting in May of 1968 through June of 2019. Mr. Quillen described her as the finest person her had ever had dealings with. She also served as a legal secretary to Nancy Dickenson and Bruce Russell for many years.

Her dedication to her career was a big part of her legacy, but her life’s purpose was to invest in family. She was a loving daughter, loyal sister, committed mother, and joyful aunt, but above all, she was an adoring and devoted Mamaw to her grandson. Diana always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.

She is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Artrip; grandson, Dalton Nuckles; sister, Regina Smith Hicks; brother, Robert Smith II (Robby); three nieces, Alesia Hicks Orren, Shauna Hicks Britt, and Jessica Smith Phillips; and nephew, Robert Neal Smith III (Robby Neal). She is also survived by brother-in-law, Carl Thomas Hicks Jr. (Tommy) and sister-in-law, Judy Smith, as well as eight grand nieces and nephews.

Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2019, at Owens Funeral Service from 1 to 2 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon with Rev. Jason Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Diana’s honor to a favorite charity.

Diana was one of the finest people I've ever known. So sad to hear of her passing but also thankful that she did not linger on with a lengthy illness. You are all in my thoughts & prayers, Robert Adair
